Rivendell was established in the Second Age of Middle-earth in SA 1697. There is a large hall with a dais and several tables for feasting. Another hall, the Hall of Fire, has a fire in it all year round with carven pillars on either side of the hearth, it was used for singing and story telling on high days but stood empty the rest of the time so people could go there to quietly think.
The town of Rivindell, also home to horse masters and mounted combat trainers, is a beatiful place, kept in secret from all except the elves and their allies. Even though it is considered a safe place, in dark times like these there are still some garrisoned forces in it.
This is the place where spearmen and swordsmen can train in mounted combat and specialise into horse riding. The cavalry is a very valuable part of the elven army, as it is the one that strikes the critical blow to the enemy, in big battles. Thus this town is very important, as it is currently the only place where cavalry candidates are trained.
The city itself can be accessed across a bridge to the side, which is reachable only by going past the wall, thought a deadly rain of arrows, or through tight and dangerous passages throught the mountains. While the main entrance seemed well guarded, the bridge to the side was an open area, as the elves do not believe that anyone can go through the mountain passages and even if someone manages, it will take them time to assemble, during which time the elves will be able to strike the first blow.
