    On Dwarves
We Dwarves are a proud and stern race, sturdy as well, to resist the many dangers of our time. We are physically much stronger than any Man, Elf, or Hobbit, making light of heavy burdens. We also have a greater endurance, especially in the ability to resist great heat and cold of our underground homes. Many of us live up to two hundred and fifty years but it is not unheard for a dwarf to be twice that age. We also have the knack to learn new skills quickly. A normal dwarf is usually stubborn and secretive, but we still maintain the capacity to be loyal friends. Most of the time, the only thing we care about is mining and crafts, or fighting the accursed goblins. Dwarves are not hurt by insults, but we have a propensity to hold a long-lasting grudge, one that may last many generations. We are greedy, true, but our stoutness prevents us from being corrupted by it, as shown by what happens to those who hold Dwarven Rings of Power. Whereas Men who owned the nine Rings were corrupted and quickly became the Nazgûl, the Dwarves remain unaffected. The only power that the rings has over them is the power to inflate their greed for gold. Some of the wicked clans like the Blacklocks and perhaps Stonefoots, however, make alliances with Orcs and Goblins from time to time, curse their beards!

We have been taught special skills by Aulë and live by mining for precious minerals such as gold, iron, copper, and silver from all over the mountains on Middle-earth. In ancient times, the we also mined Mithril in the mines of Khazad-dûm but the Goblins have since taken away Khazad-dûm from us. We are also known, and rightly so, as able masons, and smiths. We craft many famed weapons, armors, and items of art and beauty, amongst them Narsil, the sword of Elendil, the Dragon-helm of Dor-lómin, and the necklace Nauglamír. We have built many famed halls including Belegost, Nogrod, Khazad-dum, and Menegroth. We are also a good for starting a fires almost anywhere out of almost anything. We do not farm and herd because well we live mostly underground. Instead we trade smithcrafts to men and elves in exchange for food.

The number of Dwarf women are few, only about 1/3 of our total number, which is the reason for our slow population growth. Because of their rarity, we keep them concealed within our mountain halls to protect them from other races. Dwarf women are seldom seen walking about and seldom do they travel except in great need, and when they do, they dress as Dwarf-men. They are rumored to be similar to dwarf-men in voice and appearance, usually other peoples cannot tell them apart but this is only rumors spread by us to keep the other races confused. Like how Men have the opinion that there are no dwarf-women and that the Dwarves grow out of stone. Us Dwarves usually take only one spouse in their lives (unless their spouse died) and, as in all things, are jealous of our rights. Less than one-third of dwarf-men take a wife since many dwarf-men do not wish to marry, as they are too busy with their crafts. Also, not all dwarf-women take husbands, as they may not have an interest in marriage, or some desire for a dwarf-man they cannot have and will settle for no other.
